Data is meaningless; on its own. Its simply just characters, symbols, numbers dates or images!
To add meaning and context to data we can give it a data type!
Examples of data types are:
Boolean: Stores only one of two values: e.g. yes/no true/false
Real: A real number contains decimals. e.g. 5.8786
Integer: Any whole numbers e.g. 69
Dates: They can be stored in many different forms e.g. 3/5/6
Currency: The database adds either £ or $ and can include decimals. e.g. £3.45
Image: Some databases can store images. e.g. photos of criminals
Text (or string/alphanumerical): is a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. e.g. 4t^^^
